Finding her voice in PR
For communication major Annabelle Gray ’26, interning at Boston-based Quotable Media marked an exciting first step into the public relations industry. As part of a small, mission-driven agency that amplifies female-founded businesses, Gray took on a wide range of responsibilities—from pitching clients to media outlets and developing social media strategies to assisting with client events. The immersive, hands-on experience introduced her to the realities of agency life, sharpened her communication skills, and solidified her interest in pursuing a career in communications after graduation.
Why did you decide to choose Quotable Media as your internship?
I chose to spend my semester internship at Quotable Media because I knew it was the place where I could learn more about the communications field, and work towards my goals for the semester in a small agency setting. Before starting at Quotable, I had no previous experience working in public relations, and felt excited by the opportunity to work for an agency whose mission is to uplift female founders.
What was the process like to obtain your internship?
My internship advisor sent me the internship posting, and I filled out both the Public Relations and Magazine Editorial internship applications on Quotable’s website. After some follow-up, I got an interview with the founder, and we talked about my goals, what was expected of the internship, and what working at a PR agency looks like. I immediately accepted once I got the acceptance letter a few weeks later!
What does a typical day look like for you at your internship?
My day started by commuting into Boston, and either walking or taking the Orange Line to my office in the Financial District. I begin by checking my emails and notifications, and respond to any clients and inquiries that I received overnight. I’d do anything from pitching clients to traditional media like news outlets, magazines, newspapers, and TV stations, as well as pitching some clients to non-traditional forms of media like podcasts and influencer marketing. I also created social media content calendars and tracked engagement. Each day was different, and the advantage of working for an agency rather than in-house PR is that I was able to do many different things during the day.
What have you learned from this internship that you think will be valuable in your future career?
The experiences I gained from interning at Quotable this semester will be invaluable, especially as my first hands-on experience in the communications field. Endicott’s curriculum design enables seniors to fully immerse themselves in their internship, and I am grateful for the opportunity. I’ve learned what it means to work for a public relations agency, how to effectively communicate with both clients and media, and have learned a lot about businesses local to Boston. I assisted in the preparation and planning of a grand opening event, as well as facilitated the run-of-show at the event, sat in on numerous virtual client meetings, and had the opportunity to meet in person with a new client during their onboarding process. I am excited that I have these experiences under my belt before entering the job market as a college graduate.
How has your academic experience at Endicott prepared you for the responsibilities of this internship?
Endicott has prepared me for my internship experience through comprehensive communications classes and the experience I gained during my first two internships. Those internships taught me how to conduct myself in an interview, communicate my goals, and how to find an internship site best suited for me. My communications professors truly care about my academic and professional growth, and have supported me by making meaningful connections. Cherie Lynch, in particular, was instrumental in helping me secure the best possible internship for this year, and I cannot thank her enough.
